Contemporary Balinese abstraction
Wayan Gede Susana
Layered abstracts concerned with atmosphere and the feeling of space.
Wayan Gede Susana was born in 1967 in Mas Village, Ubud — a community whose name has been synonymous with Balinese fine art for generations. He began painting in childhood and entered formal artistic training at fifteen, later studying architecture at Udayana University, a discipline whose sense of space and structure still shapes his canvases.
His work sits within contemporary abstract expressionism, layering colour and texture into quiet, atmospheric compositions. Over three decades his paintings have travelled from the galleries of Ubud to solo exhibitions in Singapore, Sweden and Switzerland.
At Art De Areka, Susana is our featured artist — the anchor of the collection.
